Book Reviews
Review 1
In this sequel novel to “Bridles and Bourbon,” author Mary Ann Marzheuser has delved more deeply into the lives of the Arnold family and the characters who have, in one way or another, been involved with the AA Thoroughbred ranch, the distillery, or the relationships with the central characters – brothers Amos and Adam.
Set in the Thoroughbred horse country of Kentucky, a lush locale in Florida, and the perilous regions of Mexico, Ms. Marzheuser weaves another suspenseful tale of love, betrayal, treachery, and redemption in this gripping look at the human condition. There is a deep and abiding respect for familial relationships that carries this novel into a warm and inviting framework of intrigue and plot twists. The storyline is often simultaneously comforting and edgy as the family struggles to rebuild following a series of mysterious crimes against their horses and the staff. The reader is guided into a complex sequence of police and FBI investigations, private investigator inquiries, and family collaborations that all work toward a dangerous, or peaceful, conclusion.
Anyone who read the premiere novel, “Bridles and Bourbon” was left with a hunger to find out more about what happened to the Arnold family and this sequel does not disappoint. “Take the Reins” will fascinate readers from the first pages until the very end. It is a heady novel which evokes the excitement of riding a racehorse with a glass of bourbon in hand and heads furiously to the finish line! Readers will thoroughly enjoy every minute of this ride!
